Charlotte, N.C. – The Charlotte Express (4-9) beat the Nashville Nightwatch (1-10) 28-19 for the second time this season on Saturday, June 25 at Johnson C. Smith University. The Express gave their fans a victory to close out the season at home on a high note. The Express will travel next week to Nashville to finish their 2016 season on July 2, 7PM.
The Express received the pull and drove down the field for a quick score from Micah Hood to Paul Weeks. They would keep the early momentum to build a short lived 2-0 lead. Nashville responded with a three goal run to take a 2-3 lead. Charlotte countered with Jakeem Polk bookends to tie the game at three. Charlotte would break and score again to lead 4-3, a lead they held the rest of the game.
By the end of the first quarter, Charlotte led 8-4. Nashville couldn’t get any closer and were down 14-9 by the end of the first half. The Nightwatch couldn’t chip away at the lead during the third quarter and were losing 22-14 by the start of the fourth. The Express would keep up the pressure and close out the game for a 28-19 victory.
This victory gave Charlotte four wins, doubling last season’s total. The Express got winning contributions from players Paul Weeks, Jakeem Polk, and Taylor Minch. Shane Sisco added six goals to pad his team leading total. The defense was led by Jeff Nordgren, earning three defensive stops while adding three goals.
The Nashville Nightwatch were led with inspired performances by Zack Avello, Mac Mcclellan, Jake Wright and Tom Radcliffe.
The Express travel to Nashville this Saturday to face the Nightwatch for the third and final time this season. In their previous match in Nashville, the Express prevailed 26-24. This will be the final game of the 2016 season for the Express. This will be Express player Ken Porter’s final AUDL game.
