Charlotte, N.C. and Atlanta, G.A. – The Charlotte Express announced today that the franchise has been contracted and will cease operations. Charlotte owners Steve Hall and Albert Banks have agreed to join an ownership group of the Atlanta Hustle.
The Atlanta franchise was previously owned and operated by the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). The change is due in part to the strategic position the AUDL has taken to sell its stake in all remaining active franchises.
“It was a very difficult decision for Albert and I as Charlotte is our home. Our goal has always been to grow the sport of Ultimate and we will continue to support our local Ultimate community. We are incredibly grateful for the hard work of the Express players, coaches, staff, volunteers and the support of our sponsors,” said co-owner Steve Hall.
Hall and Banks join John Boezi in forming the new Atlanta ownership group. John helped found the franchise, served as General Manager of the Hustle during its first two seasons and oversaw all team operations.
“I’m thrilled to have Steve and Albert join us. We gain two smart, successful professionals with ties to Atlanta that will be invested in our team and our city. They both add skills and experience that complement my own. The three of us are excited to build on the playoff success of the Hustle’s 2016 season,” said John Boezi.
