Irwin Belk Complex at Johnson C. Smith University
The Irwin Belk Complex at Johnson C. Smith University is the official home stadium for the Charlotte Express for the 2016 season. Located near the heart of uptown Charlotte, the 4,500 seat stadium features an Olympic-size track, a state-of-the-art video scoreboard and a view of the Charlotte skyline. The Charlotte Express will play their seven home games in the Irwin Belk Complex for the first time while playing its second season in the American Ultimate Disc League.
Named for benefactor Irwin Belk, a member of the family behind Belk department stores, the Irwin Belk Complex opened in 2003. The stadium hosts the JCSU Golden Bulls football games and the University’s track and field invitational meets.
In a unique “public-private” partnership formed between JCSU and the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Commission, the general public is allowed to use the track for exercise everyday from 8:00 a.m. to dusk.
Johnson C. Smith University, founded in 1867, is ranked 16th among Historically Black College and Universities by U.S. News and World Report. JCSU enrolls approximately 1,400 students and has been a member of the Clinton Global Initiative University for the past four years.
